2005년, IDW Publishing 에서는 Konami의 대표적 작품들인
Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania 를 원작으로 한 만화책을 출시하게 됩니다.
"Castlevania : The Belmont Legacy" 는 GAMEBOY로 출시된 시리즈의 인기 주인공
Christopher Belmont 를 중심으로 이야기가 전개되는 이 작품은, 1)
특이할지도 모르지만, 어떠한 공식적인 Artwork 에서 조차 오래동안 알려지지 않은 Belmont 의 이야기를 알 수 있는 좋은 작품이라고 할수 있습니다.

이야기는 Christopher가 그의 가문이 수세기동안 싸웠던 Dracula 백작이 부활하는 악몽을 꾸면서 시작됩니다. 그는
이상한 점을 깨닫지만, 그의 약혼녀, Illyana 와의 결혼식 준비로 많이 바빠, 이내 그 꿈을 잊게 됩니다. 3)
그렇게 행복한 첫날 밤을 보내는 사이, 사악한 Bartley 가문이 다시한번 어둠의 Dracula 백작을 부활시키는데 성공하게 됩니다. 4)
Christopher 는 Belmont 가문의 묘지가 훼손된 것을 발견하게 되고, 이에 그는 Vampire Killer 를 다시한번 들고, 뱀파이어 백작을 다시 무너뜨려야 됨을 깨닫게 되죠. 5)
그는 과거 Belmont 가문을 도왔던 Totoyan Clan의 도움을 받게 됩니다. 그리고 또한, 그가 나쁜녀석들을 혼자서 쳐부수는 것을 앉아서 가만히 보고 있을수 없는, 그의 약혼녀, 역시 그를 돕게 됩니다. 하지만, Dracula 에게 납치를 당하게 되죠, 아주 전형적인 틀이기도 합니다.

하지만 정작, 이 작품은 Castlevania 팬들에게 좋은 참고서적이 될뿐, 그다지 스케일이 큰 작품은 아닙니다. 7)
Bartley 가분의 얽히고 섥힌 관계보다는 Christopher 가 그의 선조들에게서의 허락을 받아, 모든 고전 무기들을 찾는 것에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 8)
첫번째 장이 대부분 설명으로 채워져있긴 하지만, 나머지 부분은 난무하는 채찍과 칼부림 액션등으로 채워져 있습니다. 9)
그림체 또한 그다지 좋은 편에 속하진 않으며, 그렇다고 본인이 같은 종류의 만화책에 미칠 정도의 팬은 아니기에, 기존에 나온 다른 작품보다, 훨씬 낫다 혹은 나쁘다에 대해서는 언급할수가 없습니다. 확실히 다른 Konami 관련 IDW 만화책에서 찾을수 있는 그런 스타일이 부족한 것은 사실입니다.
Belmont 가문의 유산에 대해서도 특별한 것은 없습니다. 단지 Castlevania 명성의 약간의 흠집이 간것을 제외하고는 뱀파이어 헌터에 대한 전형적인 또 하나의 이야기로서는 아주 잘 된 작품이라고 할수 있습니다. 10)
객관적으로, 이 작품은 최고의 이야기는 전혀 아니며, 한마디로 이야기하자면, 명성을 이은 적당히 버무려진 작품이라고 할수가 있겠습니다.

long-ignored Belmont, especially since he's seen so rarely in any official artwork.)

casts them
aside(phr v : to get rid of sth or sb, cast sb/sth ↔ aside, "Never cast aside your old friends" ), as he has more important things to take care of - the wedding to his dear love Illyana.)

(While they spend their night in
bliss(n : complete happiness, "I didn't have to get up til 11-sheer bliss"), the evil Bartley family succeeds in resurrecting the dark lord Dracula once again.)

(When Christopher finds the Belmont family graveyard
defiled(v : to spoil sth that is beautiful, good, or pure), he knows that he must take up the Vampire Killer once again and destroy the lord of the vampires.)

(His quest is
aided(v : to help sb or help sth to happen, "Exercise can aid relaxation") by the Totoyan clan, who apparently have aided the Belmonts in the past.)

(The story and writing is nothing spectacular, although there are a handful of references to
please(v : to make sb feel happy or satisfied(be hard/easy/impossible/etc to please), "She's hard to please. Everything has to be perfect.") Castlevania fans.)

(Other than the
intertwining(adj : twisted together or closely related) relationship with the Bartley family, Christopher opens up a case from his ancestors and finds all of the classic weapons. )

(Although the first chapter is mostly exposition, the remainder is primarily action, with lots of whipping and
stabbing(v : to push a knife into sb, "He was stabbed to death in a fight") and women calling each other whores.)

(The artwork is also just kinda
mediocre(adj : not very good, "a mediocre performance"), although not being a huge fan of
contemporary(adj : belonging to the present time(contemporary music/art/dance/etc), "an exhibition of contemporary art") comics, I can't say whether it's much better or worse than anything out there now.)

(To be fair(
객관적으로), the series has never really been about great storytelling, so the best you can say(
한마디로 말하자면) is that it adequately resembles its namesake in that respect.)
